This was it, the beginning of the year. Evan was teaching a whole new batch of first years now, who he would be seeing in classes for the remainder of their seven years at Hogwarts. For many of them this was their first class ever at the school, and Evan wanted to make it something they could remember. Normally the room wasn't set up like a regular classroom, but today for the first lesson of the year there were desks set up in a large circle. There were no telescopes, either, which meant that the students would not be able to look at anything in the actual sky. Evan had a different idea for today, however. He waited in the center of the circle created by the desks for everyone to file in.

Ella was excited for her first class. It was being taught by Professor Summer, who was actually related to her. He was her...what was it again, first cousin once removed? Yes, that was it. Evan Summer was Ella Frost's mother's cousin. Ella still wasn't sure whether to call him "Uncle Evan" or "Professor". Were you allowed to skip 'professor' when the person was related to you? Well, she would find out eventually when she got to class.

Because Ella was in Ravenclaw, she didn't have an extremely long way to go. Just from her House's tower to the Astronomy tower. That meant that Ella could take her time getting books and such, which was a relief. Potions was not going to be quite as easy. Whose idea was it anyway to make classes so far away from someone when they only had so much time to get there?

Ella entered the classroom to find it set up in a way she had definitely not expected. Apparently they weren't looking outside at the stars tonight, considering the fact that there were no telescopes and desks were set up around the room. Uncle Evan was standing in the middle of the circle of desks, watching the door for people. "Hello," Ella said to him, and she sat down at no particular spot. Normally she would sit at the front of the room, but here there was no front, so it didn't really matter where.

Astronomy. What a useless class. Who in the world would need to study the stars? This one was right up there in pointlessness with Divination and Care of Magical Creatures. Keaira would rather be in a class that actually taught you magic, not one that showed you the yearly path Venus takes around the sun. Why everyone had to learn some things in this school she would never know. What practical application did this have in real life? In any field of magic, even? It wasn't really that exciting to be able to pick out one of the trillions of white dots in the sky and identify what it was. To Keaira they were all the same, anyway.

Keaira very much wanted to skip this class, but unfortunately she knew she was forced to go. Fortunately, however, she wasn't forced to pay attention as long as it looked like she was, and if it meant that she was going to flunk the final exam, then so be it. She would rather fail this class than actually do work related to it. She definitely wasn't doing homework for this, either. It was annoying that she had to go in the first place. When Keaira got to the class, she didn't say anything to the professor and took a seat at the opposite side of the circle of desks from a the only other person in the classroom. It was a Ravenclaw girl who looked a little older than Keaira was. It didn't matter who it was really, however, because Keaira just wanted to stay away from everyone.
